What is NABH?
The NABH or National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers is an organization that accredits hospitals and healthcare providers. The primary goal of NABH is to establish and manage a hospital accreditation program. The Indian Quality Council’s Member Board is responsible for meeting the much-sought-after needs of clients in order for them to set goals and benchmarks for the health industry’s progress. The NABH is upheld by consumers, the government, and industry stakeholders. out of all these groups, consumers – more specifically, patients – receive the most benefit from following NABH guidelines.
Benefits of NABH Accreditation
There are a variety of advantages to all of the hospitals/clinics that meet Full NABH or Entry level NABH requirements. The following are some of the most important advantages of having a high NABH:

- Better Staff Utilisation through training & clearer assignment of roles and responsibilities with credentialing and privileging
- Optimizing usage of Materials with better Inventory Management, avoiding of Stock-outs.
NABH Programs
NABH has accreditation programs for:
- Hospitals
- Nursing Homes
- Health Care Organizations
- Blood Banks & Transfusion services
- Primary or Secondary Health Centers

Procedure for NABH Accreditation
It is a five-step procedure to apply for NABH Accreditation:
Submission of application to NABH
The application must cover the fee, a self-declaration of terms and conditions, a completed self-assessment form, and other required documents like: hospital policies, fire NOC (Notice of Compliance), lift NOC , MCA related NOC , police NOC , pollution NOC , proof of address, ID for current hospital directors, bank statements and electricity bill amount for shares held percentages signageN OCand any other relevant documents.
Review of application by NABH
After an aspiring hospital submits their application to officers of the NABH, those officials will review the submission and send an acknowledgment letter with a unique reference number. This way, they can keep track of the process moving forward.
Pre-assessment by committee
NABH sends a Coordinating Inspector or an evaluation crew to ensure that the following elements are completed and assessed:
- Preparation of the aspirant hospital for the final assessment
- Reviewal of the authenticity of documents submitted by the hospital
- Clarification in the practice of the evaluation by the employees of the hospital.
Final-assessment
Once the hospital has made all of the necessary corrections from their pre-assessment by committee members, they must take their final assessment. The evaluation will be conducted by a NABH representative and include a review of all functions and services within the hospital. Once completed, if accredited, the hospital will receive an certificate with a three year validity period.
Reassessment and surveillance
The NABH’s accreditation is only valid for three years, so the committee schedules a reassessment cycle every three years for hospitals. If a hospital wants to maintain its accreditation, it must apply for reassessment at least six months before the current validity expires. There are negative consequences if a hospital does not reapply in time.
NABH Documents Required
The NABH team has several documents, both required and non-required, that they will ask you to update on their protocol. Some of the key documents needed by NABH are listed below:
- Hospital registration certificate
- Hospital photographs
- Any other Empanelments/ Accreditations
- Details of doctors and support staff
- List of the services provided
- Bio-medical waste certificate
- NOC from Fire department
- Lift NOC (If elevate available )
- SOPs for the various quality procedures followed at the hospital
NABH Requirements
Below are several key infrastructure and quality requirements from NABH that must be met for the operation theater and other parts of the hospital:
- Disabled friendly passage, halls, and washrooms
- Modular OT
- CSSD room
- Laminar flow
- Bio-medical waste room
Preparation for NABH Accreditation
To be accepted by NABH, the administration must develop a strategy for attaining a goal. The first stage is to choose someone to lead and oversee all activities that need accreditation.
- The first step is to choose a person who understands the current quality assurance procedure. As a result, the officer may see where the hospital needs to improve and what changes need to be made.
- There must be a clear comprehension of the NABH examination procedure in the aspirant hospital.
- The hospital should appoint officers to set the benchmarks and ensure higher standards are met.
- The hospital should conduct a self-assessment drive before bringing the quality standards to the NABH team. If they find that everything is in order, they can proceed with submitting the application form.
